Municipal Training |

Mandate: Municipal Training is a departmental initiative serving the incorporated municipalities of Newfoundland and Labrador. The program exists to strengthen and improve the leadership, administrative, operational and other job related skills of municipal clerks, managers, councillors and other municipal employees. The program accomplishes this primary goal by providing training and continuing educational opportunities in areas of importance to municipal councils and their staff. The program also develops quality resource materials that municipalities can use as guides to improving the management and operational capabilities at the local level. In November of 1999, the Department signed a Memoradum of Understanding with the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Municipalities (NLFM), Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Municipal Administrators (NLAMA) and the CCL forming a formal Municipal Training and Development Partnership. The purpose of this Memorandum of Understanding is to give effect to the vision of the partners for municipal training and development: Our vision for the future of municipal training and development is strong, effective and self-sustaining municipal government provided by knowledgeable competent elected officials and qualified professional staff through a partnership process between the Department of Municipal and Provincial Affairs, the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Municipalities, the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Municipal Administrators, and the Combined Councils of Labrador.
